September is a fantastic time of year for hiking & biking in the mountains! Here are our top 3 “Fall Foliage” hikes to take while the leaves are at the peak of their brilliant yellows, oranges & reds:
Rainbow Lake, Frisco – This easy, short hike (less than 1 mile) is great for kids and the Fall colors are gorgeous. The trailhead is located right off of Main Street in the town of Frisco (464 Temple Trail). Take Summit Blvd/Hwy 9 south to 8th Ave (right) then right on Pitkin Street and left on 2nd Ave to 464 Temple Trail. (Dogs on leash are allowed.)
X10U8 to Minnie Mine loop, Breckenridge – This hike is scenic and perfect for those who want an easy to moderate 2 mile loop. The Trailhead is across French Gulch Road from the B&B Trailhead parking lot. From Main St/Hwy 9 Breckenridge, turn east on Wellington Rd to French Gulch Rd (right). Proceed 1.5 miles to the B&B Trailhead parking. (Dogs on leash are allowed.)
Boreas Pass Road, Breckenridge – Boreas Pass is an easy walk, and you also have the option to travel by car, bike or horseback. This trail/road is a popular route that offers numerous views looking down on the town & surrounding mountains, and its golden aspens are plentiful in Autumn. From Main St/Hwy 9 Breckenridge, turn left on Boreas Pass Rd and follow it to the parking lot for a hike/ride or drive up to the summit/Section house to turn around and head back to Breckenridge. (Make sure your gas tank is full. Dogs on leash are allowed.)
